WhatsApp calling: common questions
Is this the official WhatsApp Calling API?
Yes. Calls use Meta's WhatsApp Business Calling API on your own number. No unofficial apps or phone bridges are involved.
Do agents need a phone?
No. Calls are answered in a desktop browser with a headset or the computer's microphone.
Can we call customers first?
Yes, after the customer grants call permission. You can send the permission request from the chat, and WhatsApp shows the customer a prompt to allow calls.
